Description

Artist Aaron Young
Aaron Young (American, b.1972) is a Contemporary interdisciplinary artist. Influenced by the dynamic and often dangerous early performance work of Chris Burden, Young creates objects that are the result of spectacle and performance. Some of his most celebrated works are the result of driving motorcycles on plywood panels, such as Greeting Card 10a (2007), where Young and a team of bikers drove their motorcycles across a 72 x 128 ft. surface illuminated only by their bike headlights. The resulting painting is covered in the exhaust smoke and their tire tracks, and references the gestural action painting of artists such as Jackson Pollock. Young was born in San Francisco, and went on to attend the San Francisco Art Institute where he received his BFA in 2001. After completing his MFA at Yale University in 2004, he moved to New York and has been exhibiting regularly ever since. His work has been included in shows at the P.S. 1 Contemporary Art Center in Queens, the 2006 Whitney Biennial in New York, the Herzilya Museum of Contemporary Art in Israel, and Harris Lieberman in New York, among others. His work can be found in the public collections of the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and Jumex in Mexico City, among others.
